J. MARION SIMS FOUNDATION AWARDS $2.3 MILLION IN GRANTS

Medical care and assistance with basic needs for low-income citizens are among projects funded by the J. Marion Sims Foundation’s most recent grant awards. A total of 11 organizations in Lancaster, Chester and York counties are recipients of grants totaling approximately $2.3 million.
“Currently, a number of citizens find it difficult to obtain good medical care or to meet their basic needs for a variety of reasons,” said Foundation President Jim Morton. “We’re pleased to make awards to help meet these needs as well as a variety of others in Lancaster County, Great Falls and Fort Lawn.”
Grant awards were made to:
- CareNet - $818,456 over 18 months to fund start-up and operational costs of a community health center that provides comprehensive medical services for area residents regardless of ability to pay
- Chester County School District - $159,410 over three years to support a social worker position for high-risk youth in Great Falls and Lewisville schools
- Children’s Attention Home - $34,857 over two years to help support health and wellness programs for abused, neglected and abandoned children from Lancaster County, Great Falls and Fort Lawn
- Family Connections of South Carolina - $6,800 over two years to provide support for families with special needs children
- GoldenCare - $135,330 to purchase two ADA-approved vans to transport patients
- Good Samaritan Medical Clinic - $42,000 for one year to increase healthcare services offered by the free medical clinic to indigent patients from Lancaster County, Great Falls and Fort Lawn
- HOPE in Lancaster - $920,000 over two years to help qualifying Lancaster citizens to meet basic needs, including food, shelter, and heat
- Rocky Bottom Retreat and Conference Center of the Blind - $5,000 for one year for facility renovations at the camp serving citizens of Lancaster County, Great Falls and Fort Lawn.
- Safe Passage - $106,848 for one year to operate its battered women’s shelter in Lancaster
- United Citizens Club of Heath Springs - $47,575 for one year for capital upgrades and to help strengthen organizational capacity
- Winthrop University - $6,500 for one year for the Certificate in Nonprofit Management program for local nonprofit organization administrators
The J. Marion Sims Foundation supports programs of prevention and education that enhance health and wellness in Lancaster County, South Carolina and the communities of Great Falls and Fort Lawn.
