Nine organizations in Lancaster, Chester and York counties are recipients of approximately $1.1 million in grants awarded by the J. Marion Sims Foundation.

“While there exists a number of important needs in our communities, there also is a wide array of dedicated citizens – paid and volunteer – working to meet those needs,” said Foundation President Jim Morton. “We are pleased to make these awards to further the overall health and wellness of Lancaster County, Great Falls and Fort Lawn.”

Adopt A Leader – $95,465 over two years to for its mentoring, tutoring and other support services for high-risk African American male students in Lancaster County.
Catawba Public Health District – $159,967 over three years to expand its Healthy and Whole faith-based health initiative seeking to prevent early onset and premature death from cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer.
Christian Services - $85,300 over three years for food assistance for local low-income families.
Columbus Parker Track Club - $65,000 over three years for its character-building program for local youth.
Communities in Schools of Chester County – $127,647 over three years for the FAST (Families And Schools Together) family-strengthening program at Lewisville and Great Falls Middle Schools.
Good Samaritan Medical Clinic - $36,000 for one year to increase its indigent healthcare services.
Life Skills Opportunity Corporation - $10,700 for one year for its program of supplementing child care expenses for teenage mothers furthering their education.
USC Lancaster - $518,022 over three years for the Diabetes Education Clinic’s programs of self-management education, patient assistance and community outreach.
Winthrop University - $5,200 for one year for its Certificate in Nonprofit Management Program.

The J. Marion Sims Foundation supports programs of prevention and education that enhance health and wellness in Lancaster County, South Carolina and the communities of Great Falls and Fort Lawn.
