J. MARION SIMS FOUNDATION RE-ELECTS THREE TRUSTEES

Three trustees have been re-elected to the J. Marion Sims Foundation’s board.  Robert K. Folks, Charles M. Harrell, and Marvin L. Starks were re-elected to their second three-year terms and began their service on October 1, 2009.

Robert Folks has practiced law in Lancaster since 1977 and is a partner in the firm of Folks, Khoury and DeVenny.  A graduate of the University of South Carolina, he holds a law degree from the USC School of Law and studied at the University of Warwick in Coventry, England.  Mr. Folks served as a member and chairman of the Lancaster County Board of School Trustees and as a trustee of Presbyterian College and currently serves as a trustee of Thornwell Home for Children.  His civic involvement in Lancaster includes being a member and past president of the Lancaster Breakfast Rotary Club, and as a trustee and chairman of the Lancaster County Community Foundation.

Charles Harrell is retired from financial management of Springs Industries, where he served as assistant controller, controller and chief accounting officer, and Vice President- Financial Planning.  A graduate of Georgia State University and a Certified Public Accountant, he worked in both public accounting and financial management with several textile companies.  A Navy veteran, Mr. Harrell is a member of the Lancaster Rotary Club and has served on and chaired the board of directors of the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce, has served on and chaired the board of Springs Memorial Hospital, and has served on the local board of Wachovia Bank.  Prior to joining the board, he served as a non-trustee member of the Foundation’s Finance & Investment Committee.
 
Marvin Starks is general manager of Nibrol, a manufacturer of cording for various types of window blinds.  A graduate of Clemson University, he currently serves as the board chair for HOPE of Lancaster, chair of the Catawba Workforce Investment Board, and as a member of the board of directors of the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce.  Mr. Starks’s past community service includes chairmanship of the Healthy Lancaster project and the United Way.  He was recognized in 2005 as the outstanding private sector board member for the Catawba region by the Catawba Workforce Investment Board and was named the outstanding private sector volunteer by the South Carolina State Workforce Investment Board.  He was a member of the Southeastern Council of Foundations’ Hull Fellows Class of 2008.
